What You Need to Know About Vasectomy A vasectomy is a process that is performed to prevent the sperm from traveling from a man’s testicles to his manhood thus preventing the likelihood of him impregnating a woman when having sex. It is a type of permanent contraception that is used mostly by men who had children but have made the decision with their partners not to add more children to their family. In many cases, one can get this procedure done through the main hospitals or private clinics. Since there are shorter waiting lists when compared with public hospitals; some prefer private practices. Patients that go for this procedure can go in and come out on the same day. The procedure is performed under a local anesthetic, and it normally does not take more than an hour. A surgeon performs a traditional vasectomy by making two Incisions on either side of the scrotum. The surgeon then accesses the tubes that are known as the Vas Deferens which carry the sperms. Each of the Vas Deferens is then cut, and a part of the tube is removed. By tying them, the ends are permanently sealed. Finally dissolvable stitching is used to stitch the incisions that were made in the scrotum. A relatively new method of performing a vasectomy is the no-scalpel vasectomy. It is becoming accessible, even though this is a new technological advancement which isn’t available everywhere else. It is more popular among patients compared to the conventional vasectomy. With this kind of process, no incision is made in the scrotum; instead, the surgeon searches for the Vas Deferens using their hand to feel them then after that he uses a small tool to clamp them. A little hole is made in the skin of the scrotum which the surgeon may use in place of an incision as the surgeon had found the vas deferens so that they can make the hole in the best possible location. The surgeon will then cut and seal the tubes just as it is done with the traditional vasectomy. As it is less painful, this process is preferred by more patients.
